The expansion area had significant grade change from front to back, requiring substantial cut on the high side and fill management on the low side to achieve a consistent building pad. The business remained operational throughout the project, meaning equipment movement and material hauling had to be coordinated with active customer traffic on the site without creating safety conflicts or disrupting business operations.
Solution
J&J Services developed a sequenced excavation and hauling plan that kept all equipment movement and material staging in the expansion area — away from the active customer zone — throughout the project. The cut material from the high side was evaluated for reuse as fill, with suitable material retained on-site and unsuitable material hauled away. The building pad was excavated to the specified depth, compacted in lifts, and finished to the building contractor’s elevation requirements. Haul trucks were routed through a designated site entrance to minimize interaction with customer vehicles.

The excavation and grading were completed without any disruption to the business’s ongoing customer operations. The building contractor arrived to a compacted, properly graded pad that met the structural requirements for the planned storage building.
