Rural Residential Lot Clearing and Landscape Design

Challenges

Solution
J&J Services conducted a pre-clearing walkthrough with the homeowners to identify and mark all trees to be preserved before any equipment mobilized. The clearing proceeded with the designated trees protected, and stump grinding was completed on all removed trees. Woodland floor organic material was removed from the clearing area and replaced with quality topsoil to provide an appropriate growing medium. A simple landscape plan was developed for the cleared area — primarily lawn establishment with a naturalistic planting border at the edge of the remaining woodland, using native plants that would transition visually between the managed lawn and the preserved woodland.

Results
The homeowners were particularly pleased with the preservation of the old apple tree, which had sentimental family significance. The lawn established well through the growing season, and the native plant border created a natural transition that made the cleared area feel integrated with the surrounding landscape.
